SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
The spilling of chemical substances contained inside the battery can happen only in case of the battery suffering serious mechanical damage, causing the breaking of the cell cases.
6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Keep people that are not properly equipped, away from the area.
Wear protective clothing. Full facial masks according to the requirements of EN137, type 2 classification with yellow filters E for acid gases and vapours. Self-breathing air respirator should be dressed by at least one of the emergency team member, in order to provide for a safe immediate rescue intervention.
Chemical splash resistant goggles or face shield
Protective gloves (chemical resistant, heat retardant, electrical insulating EN 60903)
Protective clothing (chemical resistant EN 374)
Electrical insulating footwear EN 50321.
Intervention equipment: Shovel, broom, vacuum cleaner with high efficiency filters, dry sand or other absorbent.
6.2 Environmental precautions
DO NOT use water to wash spilled chemicals, avoid infiltrating them into soil or underground water.
6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
CONTAIN or COVER spilled corrosive substances with dry sand or dry earth. Collect powders and adsorbed liquids in suitable containers, avoiding dust clouds. Dispose in accordance with local regulations. Clean up affected area.
